Tentacle eyes (2023)
4K video, metal, LED box, bio-material

Tentacle Eye is a space installation,In the telling of a story about an underground kingdom, a pair of ambiguously related lovers also seem to be traveling back through a tunnel to their own past - to their memories of land and some dreamlike fantasy and fragments.

The perspective of the images moves between the monologue of ghosts, and different non-human perspectives. Interspersed with the text about a princess who loses her sight in an underground world, this recitation combines the Wu and haunted literature of ChuCi,Liao zhai. Rewriting the land bound thinking and heroic narrative implicit in these stories into an anti-origin, fragmented narrative that interpenetrates and intermingles with the non-human.

This work is about the feeling of hiding, and being suspended, explores the entanglement with non-human beings, the internal experiences of queer bodies, and how ghost are interrelated with the experience of migration of different bodies. As the world and each other transform, the narrative and plot are erased by images, creating a displacement. The suspended intimate state is able to land in encounters with non-human beings.

A different way of classifying creatures than biology, saṃsveda-ja is also known in Buddhism as creatures born in wet places

The narrative unfolds about the homelands and migrations of fictional plural liquid creatures, with images moving from the recollection of porous terrain to the membranous skin of creatures to the unfocus micro images of aquatic organisms, When the mucous skin and membranes become passages allowing the eye to travel, The vision then becomes a  tactile sensation

In a state of dispersion, the imagination of place may no longer be a solid boundary; the recollection and imagination of place is a dynamic process,  a ghostly topography of perception and imagination, a fluid substrate of liquid. In this flow, different beings are no longer marked and graded but imagine breath together.

A black cloud is landing on a rock (2021)
commissioned by Hyper Youth award
HD video and installation

To lose and reconstruct an altar in a playground, to envision a non-value-loaded ritual, is often close to a sacrilege and a playfulness

If the world is always fractured, and if ritual always operates in tension with such a world, then we need to think about ritual in terms of an endlessly dynamic.

Queer east X If splash as your whistle (2024)

Full program please see here

curated by Yuqing Lin and Xinyu xuxx
poster artist:Nguyen Hai Yen

Image Under the Ground is a programme showcasing a series of artists’ short films and a live performance to create a “cave space”, a transitional space that refracts unspeakable diaspora queer experiences. These images capture vulnerability, intimacy, and illusionary multi-sensory experience. In these works by Southeast and East Asian filmmakers and artists, “underground images” can refer to mediation outside of traditional industry filmmaking. Sometimes, it can be associated with the representation of violence or power distribution of the camera, poor image aesthetics, hidden identity, or images as an underground manifesto and action.
