Lin Yuqing is an artist born in Chengdu, Sichuan and currently based in London. Her practice spans moving image, installation, public participation, painting, and text.
Her work questions how we produce ‘images of opacity’, and through a multi-sensory image-making process, she weaves memory, mythology, and fantasy into visual forms. She explores the intersections of multiple realities and diasporic experiences, recently, she has become interested in how romantic fantasies are refracted through capital, popular culture, and globalization, and how they can open speculative spaces of world-making from the margins.
She often uses the methodology of speculative fiction to reimagine power structures within historical narratives and to experiment with decolonial way of storytelling. Drawing inspiration from post-apocalyptic sci-fi, mythology, and internet fragmentation (such as fan fiction, social media ), she seeks a sense of belonging and sentient passage within worlds entangled with more than human beings, capturing moments of intimacy, structural trauma, and desire.
